NORIYASU TSUCHIYA

BORN: 1945 in Tokyo, Japan
RESIDES: Shimoda, JapanAs a deshii (apprentice) from 1968-1971 of Living National Treasure Tatsuzo Shimaoka, potter Noriyasu Tsuchiya learned many of the skills of his master. Now head of his own kiln site in Shimoda, Japan, Tsuchiya's stoneware and porcelain works express the influences of his teacher and his own more modern and individual spirit. Noriyasu Tsuchiya's ceramic work is shown yearly at solo exhibitions at various department stores in Japan, and his first major exhibit of works took place at the Pucker Gallery in May 2001. The work is beginning to be accepted into public collections, highlighted by a recent acquisition at the Museum of Fine Arts, Boston.
