Yanagi and Hamada heard about these Okinawan Funeral Urns being bulldozed in Okinawa during the building of American Air bases. They single-handedly rescued hundreds and they survive to this day because of their work. They did much to recognize Japanese, Korean, Okinawan and Jomon folk craft and aided in its preservation. I think this alone is worth our undying appreciation of their work.
